If you can’t be happy in the next five minutes, you do not know how to be happy. Happiness and Joy are moment to moment miracles that we must all be open to or they slip away before you can say “Happy.”
No matter what is going on, it is possible to find moments of Happiness and Joy unless we choose to stay stuck in the dramatic emotions of whatever is going on. Human beings LOVE drama and all of us are drama kings and drama queens at times. These emotions grab us and suck all the energy out of us.
Even the most passionate feelings can at times grip us too hard and we find ourselves exhausted. Joy and Happiness are peaceful and often quiet. The essence of Joy may not hit us on the head, but instead gently wrap around us like soft blankets of wonder and awe.
Expect Joy and Happiness. Do not get stuck in all the emotions of life.

SUPPORT YOUR ENERGY FIELD: Begin your day by thinking about the energy field that surrounds you. Think positive thoughts and give your energy field a bath in happiness. Make a commitment to handle the challenges of your day quickly and efficiently, so that even if you become upset at some point in the day, you will quickly bring happiness back into your energy field.
SUPPORT YOUR PHYSICAL BODY: Exercise and eat foods that agree with you. Don’t eat too much at any one time, as you know how that can make you feel bloated and exhausted. Treat your physical body with great respect and care and it will do the same for you. This will improve the quality of your day.
SUPPORT YOUR INNER SPIRIT: At least three times during the day take a minute to breath deeply as you say a prayer of gratitude for the day that you are living. Say thank you for every breath that you are breathing, and repeat your vow to make the most of your life on earth, and to make the most of this particular day.
No matter what our circumstances, we can find joy and life and joy each day. Even people in the most desperate situations are able to find some joy in a day if they have the right attitude. You can do it. I can do it. We can do it together.

Grief and Happiness March 21, 2010

Acceptance is the key to coping with grief. There are some things that we cannot change, such as the passing of a loved one, or the failure of an important relationship. In the normal course of life on earth, all that can be counted on is change. It is difficult, it is tearful and there is never a good reason to push our feelings under the rug and pretend that all is happiness and bliss. There is also never a good reason to become victims of our grief. It is possible for any one of us to experience deep feelings of sadness, and then an hour later have a wonderful time. We do not need to stay stuck on our grief and in fact I often advise my clients who are experiencing deep sorrow, to take “grief breaks.” Take a walk, watch a funny movie, dance around the room or clean out that closet you have been meaning to clean out for months (or years?).
When speaking to a client last night she wanted to know when all these bad things were going to stop happening, and I said that everything that was happening to her were normal things that happen to us all, and in fact, these things would never stop happening. People would continue to become ill and pass on, there would continue to be occasional problems at work, but that did not mean that she could not have a wonderful and positive life if she wanted to.
Our “problems” do not have to ruin our lives unless we let them. Each one of us can choose to have a positive attitude. While coping with feelings of grief we can still have a positive attitude. We cannot allow ourselves to become victims because we have challenges.
Life is a mixed bag as we all know. When there are opportunities for happy moments, grab them. Happiness is there for you, just as grief is. It is all a matter of balance.

If you don’t get on the happiness train you will not have any fun
If you don’t get on the happiness train, it will leave without you
The happiness train travels every day no matter what problems arise
If you have worries, you can still take a ride on the happiness train
Your problems will still be there to be solved when you get back from your ride
Might as well take a ride on the happiness train
You will be in a much better mood to solve your problems
