If you are a mother, honor thyself today.  You have given and perhaps are still giving alot in your role as a mother.  Today is a day to relax and receive, and part of what you need to receive is love from you to you.  Focus on the satisfaction you feel as you realize you have been giving a great deal as a mother.

Now some of us mothers upon feeling the satisfaction, will get picky and start in on ourselves with the “I should have done this and I should have done that.”  We can be very picky, picky. THIS is not a day to be picky or critical of ourselves.  And for those of us who have had serious problems being mothers perhaps this is a day for a fresh start: a day to make plans to help ourselves become the people we need to be in order to be able to mother others.

No matter how you spend your time this mother’s day, be kind to yourself and have a beautiful day.

Mother is Mother – You are You May 8, 2010

Having spent the early part of my life blaming my mother for all my problems, it was such a relief to reach a stage in my life where I realized that I had the same chances in life everyone else had, even those who had happier childhoods than mine.  My mother, one of the most talented and intelligent people I have ever known, also had diagnosable mental problems that were treated as well as could be expected in the 1940ies onward.  Perhaps in 2010, were she alive and only fifty years of age, she would have better treatments available. But in her day she did not, and I understand now that she did the best she could with the disability of the emotional disaster that played through her repetitively.  I do not know if I could have lived inside her mind.  But she did and while she created havoc in the family, many people in the community found her to be one of the most talented and compassionate people they ever met.  At one point in her life, she worked with a disabled young man who lived in an institution as he could not move, hear or speak.  She worked out some kind of communication with him through sight and touch, and he thrived on her visits.  She also wrote incredible screen plays that still bring in TV residuals occasionally.  I have stacks of her writing, all bound in leather in my bookcase.   When I am having a bad memory of her, these books remind me of her incredible talent.

Being talented as she was, she made sure I had the best musical education and taught me how to speak and write.  She also made me walk around with a book on my head, to improve my posture, and to this day, people still comment on my posture. Many of my skills were taught to me by my mother, in between her tantrums.

How about you? Are you blaming your mother for whatever your problems are now? Do you see yourself as a victim of your unhappy childhood. If so, the greatest gift you can give yourself this mothers day is to let go of those thoughts and know that like every person in the world, you are a spark of the Divine, and you can make your life wonderful IF you think you can.  Whoever your mother was, the greatest in the world or a mother who had a hard time mothering: your mother is  your mother and you are you.

And God bless your mother and God bless  you.

Communicating with Mom in Spirit May 7, 2010

We all wish we had the idyllic relationship with Mom, that we see in this picture, but most of us did not.  And if fact, if we are mothers with daughters, most of us do not have perfect relationships with our daughters.  And to take this thought a step further,  most relationships are not perfect and require hard work, patience and unconditional love. Relationships offer us the challenge we need to move forward on the spiritual path.

As we approach Mother’s Day here in the US, many of us have thoughts about our mothers, and it is a bitter sweet time for those of us whose mothers are now in the world of spirit.  Mother’s Day becomes a time to remember our mothers, as we are not able to go have lunch with them and present our gifts and cards.

The other day, I did a reading for a client, whose mother in spirit came through. This mother had been a difficult woman during her lifetime, and as my client and I communicated with her, it was clear that as a spiritual being, she has lost all her difficult mannerisms in the same way that people lose their physical problems when they pass into the world of spirit. What a joy it was to communicate with the spirit of this woman.

Those of us who had difficult times with our mothers when they were alive, and who also take part in the sacred practice of spirit communication, often find that over a period of years we develop the very beautiful relationships with our mothers that we had always yearned for.  Of course mom in spirit cannot take us shopping, but she can help us with our lives and bring the love and healing she was not capable of bringing during her life on earth.

Because mediums are able to bring us evidence that in fact we are in communication with the spirit of mom, we can have it proven to us that we are not involved in a huge fantasy.

If your mom is in the world of spirit, remember her for all her best qualities on Mother’s Day, and if you were fortunate to have an almost perfect relationship with your Mother, you are very blessed. For the rest of us, let us forgive our mothers as we must forgive ourselves for the mistakes we have made if we ARE mothers.  Mother’s Day is bitter-sweet, and let’s choose the sweet, as sweet is more healing and helps us move onward on the path of unconditional love.
