OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHow is it that the colors of the sky make such an impression on me. As I look through photographs I find so many pictures of the sky. Why do I take so many pictures of the sky? Perhaps because there is a part of my human soul that wonders “what is up there?”  Looking at the sky: be it dark and full of stars, be it cloudy and full of rain, or be it a sky that paints colors across itself as the sun goes down, the sky moves me and takes me outside my ordinary reality. I can forget myself and my individuality and become lost in the colors of the sky.  Can you?

WHO IS THIS TREE FOR? December 12, 2014

IMG_5272As I decorate this tree it is for all of those who have passed on to the eternal world of the spirit, and for all of those whom I love who are still living. Each time I put another ornament on the tree I am filled with all the good and bad memories of my childhood, of the years I raised my kids, the years I helped raise my grand kids, and now in my older years, for all of my older friends, some just lingering on the earth for perhaps a few more years, and for all of my younger friends who are still building their lives and not looking back quite as much as I do now.

It is wonderful to look back as I trim the tree. I have trimmed SO many trees and I have so many memories that it becomes hard to hold on to all of them.  Some memories just fade with this years.

The ornaments are beautiful and as the tiny lights flash on and off I am again reminded of how wonderful Christmas was when I was a small child, when I had small children and when I had small grand children. The family is getting older now and while we still have fun, I do miss the babies. Who knows, perhaps I shall live long enough to know a great grand child.  That DOES happen these days.  Ah yes, there is a future to look forward to even as I look back at my memories.

Yesterday the phone rang and it rang again, and each time I answered a call I received news of the passing of someone I know or someone close to someone I know. I also received news of a man who has just entered Hospice Care.  And as I went about my day living the life as a psychic medium, I received calls from clients who wanted to make appointments for readings in the hopes of hearing from their loved ones in spirit.  As I listened to the many tears in the voices of those who called, at first I felt overwhelmed and then I remembered that as we are all born we all die.  Life is a precious time and then it is over.

Awhile back I wrote a song called Roses.  Here is the link. http://snd.sc/ZVTwmd

This link will take you to sound cloud.  Click on the triangle in the orange circle over a song called “Roses”

This song is about life’s passages and when I listen to it, I am helped to remember and accept life and death.

Why Trim the Tree When He’s Dying? December 11, 2012

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAShe sat there by the Christmas tree with strands of tinsel in her hands, getting ready to put the tinsel on the branches, one strand at a time as her mother had taught her to do. Her husband lay asleep in the guest bedroom, the hospice nurse by his side.  Outside the snow fell and the branches were weighted down with the heavy wet flakes.

“Why” she wondered “should I bother to trim this tree.  He will not come into the living room to see it and the children live half way across the country.  Perhaps the hospice team will enjoy the tree.  I hope so.

The phone rang and it was a friend who was taking a break from the task of making arrangements for the remains of one of her best friends, to be scattered in the San Francisco Bay.  She talked to her friend, and they laughed about the good old days.  “Life is different these days, isn’t it” they said to each other.   Somehow they knew that even when they were in their sixties, life looked different. Now in the eighties, most of their friends and elderly members of the family were dying.  It was hard to explain what this was like to younger people, as you really do not know what it is like until you are living it.

As these two friends chatted on the phone, they were not depressed or morbid, because by this time they were coming into an acceptance of the nature of life and death.  They had by this time been through the passings of many of those close to them, and they knew how to cope now.  While it was not easy, it was the way things were these days and would continue to be.

When the phone call was completed, she went back to the tree with lighter heart and enjoyed putting the tinsel on the tree, one strand at a time. She smiled as she looked at the beautiful tree.  In a moment she would go in and talk with her husband and he would communicate with her as well as he could. Each second she spent with him these days was a treasure.

“Thank God for tradition” she thought as she trimmed the tree.  The tree gave her hope and was for her the past, the present and whatever the future held for her.

She went to sleep with visions of Christmas, the way it used to be when the kids were little. It was a pleasant memory.

How often do we close off all that is being offered?

How often do we focus on petty things and miss the glory and wonder of what is being offered?

Each day is a miracle to be received if only we will receive it.

How can we transcend the petty moments of life that are a drag on our spiritual foundation? When will we know that when we focus on Divine Consciousness we will find peace?

Aloha Wisdom and YOUR tone of voice September 14, 2011

Let us each listen to our own tone of voice as we speak to others.  When we speak, words are carried to the ears of those we speak to, but what is even more important than the words we say, is the energetic vibration that fills those words.  As we speak we may be sending either love, irritation, anger or sadness to the person spoken to.  We can fully understand what we are sending to others by listening to the tone of voice we are sending at each moment.

“He Olina eo Ka Ke Aloha”  This says “Joy is in the voice of love” and is a quote from a wonderful little book called “A Little Book of Aloha” by Renata Provenzano.  Renata, a Holland born international journalist and traveler, is fascinated by the Hawaiian Islands.  She has collected and shares with us many of the Hawaiian Proverbs that she finds beautiful and helpful.

I am also deeply fascinated by Hawaii, having been there many times, as my parents lived there most of my adult life. Hawaii became “home” to me and I have learned a great deal by listening to and learning to sing some of the Hawaiian songs.  The great thing about the Hawaiian language is that it is mostly made up of vowel sounds.  I know from being a singer and voice teacher for over thirty years, that it is the vowel sounds that carry the tone, whether we are speaking or singing. Just try to speak or sing a consonant without a vowel attached to it and you will understand the full implications.

Tone of voice is as important as touch.  When we speak with the sound of joy and love in our voices ,  we bring healing and comfort to those who listen to us.  When we speak with the sound of bitterness, aloofness, or anger in our voices, we make those listening feel uncomfortable, sad and sometimes scared.  When we touch, those we touch can either receive healing or aloof or negative feelings. Ever have someone shake your hand and although this was meant to be a friendly gesture, you felt cold and uncomfortable?

Let us listen to our voices and discover how we are truly communicating with others.

Storm During Spiritual Circle June 2, 2011

Last night as we sat in a sacred circle, steams of light poured in through the darkened window, and the sounds of thunder shook the house.  As our spirit communication group met, we continued to bring our messages of love and peace from spirit, while each one of us quietly prayed within for the safety of all during this horrible storm.  We had heard of a tornado that touched the ground not too many miles from where we sat, and we prayer for all those who had been in that tornado attack.  We also prayed that we would be spared such an attack in the place that we sat in prayer.

Our class lasted much later than usual as it was impossible for students to leave at nine when the storm was at its worst.  Finally everyone did leave and as I sat alone in the room, I gave a prayer of thanks and a prayer for all those who would be traveling on the road during the next hour to reach the safety of their homes.

Storms of this magnitude let us understand that we are guests in the home of the Mother Earth, and have very little control over such storms. Let us take care of our earth and our atmosphere to protect this beautiful home.

When shall we start doing the things that mean most to us? When shall we start spending time with the people we care most about? Have we cluttered up all our free time with things we really do not want to do? All of these are good questions during the spiring: a time of renewal.  The flowers are blooming and so should we.

Three Laughs Best Medicine April 12, 2011

Want to feel better? Laugh. Here are three best laughs that can compete with any other kinds of treatment you may be receiving.  One: search your memory for the time you made the most embarrassing mistake. Maybe you forgot to wear a slip, or you dropped the cherry pie on the floor when you entered your mother in law’s house. What ever it was, remember it and laugh.  Two: Watch a TV show where they show funny home videos.  You will watch some of the best comedy on TV. Watch and laugh.  Three:  Sit outside in the patio of a coffee shop, or get a window seat inside and watch the people on the street. You will see some of the most dreadful outfits you ever saw, and you will see people behaving in ways that will make you want to grin. Watch and laugh.

There is nothing like a good laugh to ease tension, get over whatever you are obsessing about, and move forward in your life.  Life is short. Do not take it too seriously.  Laugh!

Will We Meet Again? April 9, 2011

All elderly people they were: chattering away, and had their little kids been in the room, or even their big kids starting to lose their hair and with widening waist lines, the stories might not have been the same. Comments would have been edited out before leaving the lips of a laughing eighty five year old. Sarcastic remarks might have not left the lips of a sparking ninety year old woman who takes perfect care of herself. They were all attending  a family event. People came from all around the country. What a wonderful week it was as they all shared stories and caught up on the gossip that had laid dormant for many years.  Oh what fun it was to talk about their children, their grandchildren, and in this day and age, their GREAT grandchildren.  Gathered around the dining table, and it was even nice not to have any little kids underfoot.   Plus any small kids might have tripped over walkers and the chords that led to the oxygen tank as they would not have been accustomed to watching out for so many life sustaining health aids.

It was time for everyone to go home. It took longer than usual for people to load their cars.  One 85 year old man with severe knee problems had to move a suit case slowly. Some slightly younger in the room were in conflict as they tried to decide whether to help him or let him have his pride.  No one helped him. Suitcase loaded, and having helped his wife into their car, which by the way he was prepared to drive for several hours, he came back into the room.  Across the room sat his sister who had traveled long and far to see the family.  His look became more intense as he approached her.  His arms went around her, and he fought the tears that he would never show anyone, clown that he is.  He hugged her with a longer hug than ever before, and slowly left the room, wonderful “will we meet again?”

As we get older and visit with our loved ones, the parting becomes bitter sweet as we do not know if we will see each other in person ever again. Yes we will be on the phone, and if we  have caught up with technology we will be on-line, on text, and maybe EVEN on twitter.  But our eyes may never meet again, and our arms may never reach out to each other in a long and intense hug.

As a psychic medium, I know from experience, that we will meet again and be together eternally.   But life on earth is very special.   This story reminds us to visit each other as much as we can, even if we are younger and think we are invincible.  Life is fragile and one never knows.
