Thirty years ago my back was hurting: the pain was awful. It did not seem like there was anything I could do. I received great treatment and got better. During that hard time, I realized how much I value moving.  After being unable to move much at all for a while, one day I was strong enough to go into the supermarket and push the cart myself: tears of joy flowed down my cheeks.

Sometimes we do not realize the value of something until we lose it.  Ever since that back injury years ago, exercise has been one of the priorities of my life.  I am grateful for each day that I can exercise.   One of my relatives had a very serious accident and while her movement is limited, she values the movement she does have, and through disciplined exercised has done many things in her life that many thought she could never do.  She simply did not give in. She struggled and is winning the battle.

Difficulties in life sometimes bring us Magic Moments: those rare moments when we value life in a way we never have before.

Even when we are young we do not appreciate our ease of movement. It is only now, as I get older, that I appreciate how much easier anything physical was – and how much stamina I had. Keeping my body’s ease of movement is now a motivator for me to do my daily exercise.

Yes Colline, as we get older we value everything more and movement is one of the items at the top of the value list!
