Each One of Us Can Choose March 19, 2010

It is heartbreaking when we want to help people who are clearly making decisions to destroy their lives through drinking, taking drugs and doing harm to others and themselves.  It is also hard to help people who have other serious problems with their health, work or family life, but refuse to do anything to try to improve their situations. If we are compassionate and sensitive friends, we may spend alot of time and emotional energy trying to help our friends, only to find out that they do not want our help. They are choosing to live as they do.

There comes a point when we have to “Let Go and Let God.”  We cannot control the lives of other people.

It is amazing how different people are from each other.  For instance, as we get to know people with serious physical disabilities, one uses the experience as an incredible opportunity to learn how to live with a disability and help others. While another person with a similar disability, feels sorry for themselves for the rest of their lives: making their own lives and the lives of their loved ones very unhappy.

Each one of us can choose.

Many of us would consider that we have grown up in difficult homes, and yet some of us have very successful lives while others go off the deep end because of an unhappy childhood.

Each one of us can choose.

What do you choose? What do I choose?  Each one of us has the power of choice.
