Grief in Relationships November 10, 2009

A woman was talking with me about  problems occuring in her family. She and I shared many thoughts which I would like to share with you.

When we do not get along with people we love, it is difficult. When our loved ones do not get along with each other, it is equally difficult. At these times we experience grief and sadness.

One thing that can be helpful is to know that the part of each one of us that does get along or does not get along with others, is the personality aspect of our being.  Not all personalities get along. But there is the deeper aspect of each one of us, the spirit within, that has a greater knowledge than our conscious mind has.   The spirit within us is a spark of the Divine, and this deeper spiritual aspect loves unconditionally. This deeper aspect of each one of us knows that WE ARE ALL ONE and that there is no separation.

When there are problems in relationships, it is not always easy to remember to connect with the spirit within, because on the personality level, our dramas are very real to us.  But if for even a moment, we can open up to the spirit within, we will connect with the unconditional love that flows to us and through us.   This connection can be very helpful in times of relationship difficulties.  While our personalities may still not get along, the spirit within can be comforted by the streams of unconditional love, and we may find that we have more understanding for ourselves and others.
