While waiting in the dentist office I heard the lady say…… March 6, 2009

While waiting in a dental office in Maui, I over heard one woman talking to the other.   Both women had full heads of gray hair, and many wrinkles in their skin.  One woman was saying to the other “You know I have had so many skin cancers. When I was young I used to bake in the sun and so this is what happens.  You think you are going to be a Goddess forever, but you aren’t.”  The other lady laughed gently.  The woman went on “By now I have had several other kinds of cancer and quite a few operations. But I am very busy working in my garden and enjoying every day of my life.”   As she said these words, the energy from the joy in her smile seemed to fill the entire waiting room.  The woman went on “Isn’t life great? I am enjoying every moment.”

As I sat and listened I felt warm all over and reminded myself to love life and to stop complaining about small problems.

Life is really a gift. Many of us look at how the cares and responsibilities of life become overwhelming at times and drag us down. But the process of working through all of these concerns can have the effect of creating a sense of joy, contentment, peace and confidence in a life beyond.

When we have undergone treatment for various kinds of serious illnesses and have even come close to death and then recovered to our usual state of wellness or near to it, the gratitude for each moment seems to become more intense. There is a knowing associated with the sense that an unseen Divine intelligence has heard all of the requests on our behalf and has responded.

Yes there are times when things do not work out the way we planned, but if our eyes are open enough to the lessons each of us need to learn through our hardships, we evolve into wiser, more balanced individuals – appreciative of what we do have, even thankful for the hard lessons we have had to learn.

Dear Ron,

Thank you so much for your message which is full of inspiration for us all. “BALANCE” is the word. The other word that jumped out at me is “APPRECIATIVE.”
