How often do we close off all that is being offered?
How often do we focus on petty things and miss the glory and wonder of what is being offered?
Each day is a miracle to be received if only we will receive it.
How can we transcend the petty moments of life that are a drag on our spiritual foundation? When will we know that when we focus on Divine Consciousness we will find peace?

These days too many of us depend on convenience foods, and do not make time to engage in the art of cooking. I say “art” as cooking IS an art. Not being one to like recipes, I find it fun to be creative and discover what dishes I can make with whatever food is around. Cooking is THE most important thing that we can to do stay healthy. You know the old expression “You are what you eat!” That is true.

A Magic Moment September 18, 2011

Thirty years ago my back was hurting: the pain was awful. It did not seem like there was anything I could do. I received great treatment and got better. During that hard time, I realized how much I value moving. After being unable to move much at all for a while, one day I was strong enough to go into the supermarket and push the cart myself: tears of joy flowed down my cheeks.
Sometimes we do not realize the value of something until we lose it. Ever since that back injury years ago, exercise has been one of the priorities of my life. I am grateful for each day that I can exercise. One of my relatives had a very serious accident and while her movement is limited, she values the movement she does have, and through disciplined exercised has done many things in her life that many thought she could never do. She simply did not give in. She struggled and is winning the battle.
Difficulties in life sometimes bring us Magic Moments: those rare moments when we value life in a way we never have before.

Hacker Re-Unites Old Flames September 16, 2011

Remember that guy you dated years ago and are glad you have lost touch with? Remember that friend who lied to you and you decided to drop forever? Well, a hacker has now re-united you, stolen your computer address book and sent emails to all: your whole life is in front of you via computer screen. Emails are arriving from people you have tried not to think about for ages!
Your significant other is frantic, as flames from the past are now in touch with you again. You are having to explain yourself and promise that you did nothing to get in touch with your old flame. “My computer was hacked” you protest to no avail. Your emotions are a roller coaster, as your revisit all the past lives you have lived during this life time. Should you join a support group for computer hacked people? Perhaps it is called “Hacked to the Limit Anonymous: HTTLA.” The name has a ring to it, eh? Finding no such group, you wonder “should I become the founder?” No, you decide. I have found quite enough in the past 48 hours. My life is a shambles. But do not shed too many tears as there may be a secret webcam watching you that will blast your tearful images far and wide. Remember, we exist in cyberspace now.

Aloha Wisdom and YOUR tone of voice September 14, 2011

Let us each listen to our own tone of voice as we speak to others. When we speak, words are carried to the ears of those we speak to, but what is even more important than the words we say, is the energetic vibration that fills those words. As we speak we may be sending either love, irritation, anger or sadness to the person spoken to. We can fully understand what we are sending to others by listening to the tone of voice we are sending at each moment.
“He Olina eo Ka Ke Aloha” This says “Joy is in the voice of love” and is a quote from a wonderful little book called “A Little Book of Aloha” by Renata Provenzano. Renata, a Holland born international journalist and traveler, is fascinated by the Hawaiian Islands. She has collected and shares with us many of the Hawaiian Proverbs that she finds beautiful and helpful.
I am also deeply fascinated by Hawaii, having been there many times, as my parents lived there most of my adult life. Hawaii became “home” to me and I have learned a great deal by listening to and learning to sing some of the Hawaiian songs. The great thing about the Hawaiian language is that it is mostly made up of vowel sounds. I know from being a singer and voice teacher for over thirty years, that it is the vowel sounds that carry the tone, whether we are speaking or singing. Just try to speak or sing a consonant without a vowel attached to it and you will understand the full implications.
Tone of voice is as important as touch. When we speak with the sound of joy and love in our voices , we bring healing and comfort to those who listen to us. When we speak with the sound of bitterness, aloofness, or anger in our voices, we make those listening feel uncomfortable, sad and sometimes scared. When we touch, those we touch can either receive healing or aloof or negative feelings. Ever have someone shake your hand and although this was meant to be a friendly gesture, you felt cold and uncomfortable?
Let us listen to our voices and discover how we are truly communicating with others.

The Soul Sees September 12, 2011

Each day I do some reading from the books by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, founders of the Sri Aurobindo Society in Pondicherry, India. Today I have read a passage about the soul. In their writings, what we often refer to as the soul, they are calling “the psychic.” The psychic is that part within each one of us that sees and understands in a manner that is far beyond what our minds are able to comprehend. Here is a wonderful passage for you to contemplate.
“Communications from the psychic do not come in a mental form. They are not ideas or reasonings. They have their own character quite distinct from the mind, something like a feeling that comprehends itself and acts.
By it’s very nature, the psychic is calm, quiet and luminous, understanding and generous, wide and progressive. Its constant effort is to understand and progress.
The mind describes and explains. The psychic sees and understands,”

Getting Through the Tough Times September 11, 2011

You have not seen me for awhile because illness in the family has kept me from my usual writing: writing that I hope you enjoy reading, and that quite frankly I need to do in order to feel the best I can feel. Writing for me is an exploration of what is going on within, and I enjoy sharing all that with you!!!! The patients are doing well now and so I am back at the computer keyboard.
GETTING THROUGH THE TOUGH TIMES
When people you love are ill and in physical danger you realize more than ever how fragile life is and that anything can happen to any of us at any moment. This realization can either lead you into a life of fear, or serve as a reminder that each day is precious and must be lived to the fullest. In other words, when faced with tough times, you and I can either take the high road or the low road. We each have a choice.
One of the things that I find most helpful during tough times is to read spiritual literature that I love. For me, reading the works of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother are extremely helpful. (They are the founders of the Sri Aurobindo Society in Pondicherry, India)
Here is a quote that I find particularly helpful:
An aimless life is always a miserable life. Every one of you should have an aim. But do not forget that on the quality of your aim will depend the quality of your life.
Your aim should be high and wide, generous and disinterested; this will make your life precious to yourself and to others.
But whatever your ideal, it cannot be perfectly realised unless you have realised perfection in yourself.
- The Mother [CWMCE, 12:3]
When I am feeling down and dealing with hardship, it is more helpful for me to pick myself up and accept the challenge. I know that if I give into feeling sorry for myself it will be a downhill experience instead of an uphill adventure. How can I use the word “adventure?” That seems like a strange word to use when writing about going through very difficult times. But when pushed into a difficult experience, I find myself facing things I have never faced before. I have thoughts and feelings that are new. I also feel the intense support of the world of spirit around me and these spiritual vibrations send me into spiritual realms I have never visited before. While I am certainly not having fun as I struggle, I do find myself on an adventure as I am in a new territory.
As the Mother in her words remind me: “do not forget that on the quality of your aim will depend the quality of your life.” These words help me to take the high road rather than the low. I am walking on a tight rope and the way I move each moment now is life changing. I will either keep my balance or fall. I prefer to keep my balance and find the new life that is evolving out of this adventure.

He Still Calls Me a Girl July 23, 2011

A CONVERSATION ON GYM TRACK: “You are both an inspiration to me” I said. “Never give up” this elderly woman told me. And her husband said ” I been chasing this girl around for 73 years, and I still can’t keep up with her.” She replied “He still calls me a girl.”
This conversation took place on the indoor track at the gym. A woman on a walker with wheels, went slowly around the track. About ten feet behind her, a man walked even more slowly while holding onto the railing around the track. At one point the man caught up with the woman, and we all left the track together. I told the elderly couple that they were an inspiration to me and that I wanted to be like them when I “grew up.”

Storm During Spiritual Circle June 2, 2011

Last night as we sat in a sacred circle, steams of light poured in through the darkened window, and the sounds of thunder shook the house. As our spirit communication group met, we continued to bring our messages of love and peace from spirit, while each one of us quietly prayed within for the safety of all during this horrible storm. We had heard of a tornado that touched the ground not too many miles from where we sat, and we prayer for all those who had been in that tornado attack. We also prayed that we would be spared such an attack in the place that we sat in prayer.
Our class lasted much later than usual as it was impossible for students to leave at nine when the storm was at its worst. Finally everyone did leave and as I sat alone in the room, I gave a prayer of thanks and a prayer for all those who would be traveling on the road during the next hour to reach the safety of their homes.
Storms of this magnitude let us understand that we are guests in the home of the Mother Earth, and have very little control over such storms. Let us take care of our earth and our atmosphere to protect this beautiful home.
